Wow, I have neglected my blog posting this year so far. I have just been looking at my business strategy for the coming year and have decided to do monthly roundup posts instead of posting every little piece of news as I go along. Please do follow me on my social media profiles if you wish to get weekly tidbits of sketches and things. Links to these networks are above.
So this blog post is looking back at January. And the main image of the month was this rather cute Fairy Penguin which I have had in my mind for quite some time to create. I just wanted to combine the fairy with the penguin and here it is in my cute and stylised way. What do you reckon? I can’t wait to put it on some merch – I bet it will look funky on a T-shirt!
I posted this online for Australia Day as I thought the Fairy Penguin would make a great cute Australian wildlife character to mark the occasion.
Images below show the work in progress from the initial hand drawn image of the penguin through to digitally colouring the cutey on Adobe Photoshop.
I’ve also wanted to diverse and try something new and I had a go at some collage. I spent a bit of time with my craft knife and a few magazines and Brisbane brochures and seeing what could materialise. It’s just a messy work in progress at the moment. I must revisit this…
January was also a time to get stuck into my local drawing groups for 2019. I joined Ace Comics Drawing Group in Annerley and the Drink & Draw group that meet every other week in Brisbane. Great to catch up with with friends and meet new people. Here are a couple of people sketches from these:
Right, now on to catching up with February…
