The Great Oz Eddventure #44 – Carpet Python Snake meal at Tidbinbilla

Every other week (around Sunday) the resident Carpet Python that lives in the Visitor Centre at Tidbinbilla gets fed a mouse.  I’ve never seen a snake eat anything before so this was quite an eye opener – as it looked like the snake was having reverse regurgitation!  It’s jaws dislocate and extend over it’s prey as it slowly swallows it whole down it’s throat.
On this particular occasion the snake grabbed it’s mouse and hung down vertically, holding the mouse horizontally within it’s coiled body, and then proceeded to dine as the mouse (these are already dead by the way!) plummeted in slow motion into the jaws of no return!
It was a fascinating 15 minutes!
