Franki Sparke’s Visual Storytelling Course – Week 1/14

I have finally found a fantastic course to enrol on, and I am enjoying it so much that I thought I should document each weeks progress here on my blog.  Franki Sparke is full of inspiration, knowledge and a wealth of experience, that makes it special to learn from her.
This week had three parts:
Firstly there was gesture drawing.  This involved drawing life subjects in our visual diaries, where we had to keep our pencils constantly on the paper and looking at the subject for 98% of the time.  Here are a few favourites of the ones that I did:
The next technique was observation drawing.  Each week, Franki will be providing us with different observations to draw, and this week it was people sitting down.  Again, here are a couple of my favourites:
The third technique was drawing from memory.  For this, we first of all drew our own cars in the lesson from memory:
And then we drew our cars from observation:
And then, we drew it once more again from memory.  As you can see, this exercise proved that once you are more familiar with your subject you can then start drawing it from memory more successfully.

really like your people sitting down, v different to your usual style but the restrained sketchy lines are great and give energy to the pictures.
