I thought I would share a few sketches that I have recently done rather then letting them be hidden away in a sketchbook never to be seen again! And if I am feeling brave I might share a few every month…
There are a few gestural drawing of king parrots and a fantail on a nest that I drew in the Bunya Mountains and then added some colour pencils to get a soft feeling of colour.
When we were recently in Bribie and everyone was out paddle boarding I drew the picture “Who wants to be on the surface?” because I love fish and scuba diving.
Then I recently went sketching with a friend in Brisbane City’s Botanic Gardens where I could spend a bit longer on sketches rather then passing moments.
The weekend before last we went to Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens. And whilst we were having lunch there I peered over my shoulder to take in the view of Brisbane. Then, quickly turning to a page in my sketchbook I turned the view into the world of Cute Australia and placed Koala and Possum at the top of a hill admiring the view.
Last weekend we went to Stradbroke Island – absolutely beautiful! Not only did we see a koala and a kangaroo, but also a whole bunch of ocean wildlife to marvel over without even having to get wet!! We saw humpback whales, turtles, bottlenose dolphins and manta rays!!
So, as always, the sketchbook came with me and I just added some digital colour back at home to a couple of sketches:
Ptchhhh – the first thing you see and hear from a whale is the water being expelled from it’s blow hole, then it’s dorsal fin breaking the surface, and finally it’s caudal fin disappearing back into the water.

Hazel took some absolutely beautiful photos http://lunchtime-adventures.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/why-didnt-we-go-sooner.html
I thought that I would link these two weeks together. Firstly because all the work that I did over the last two weeks can be grouped together, and secondly I will unfortunately be missing next week’s session so I will get up to date now, and then restart the next Storytelling blog post when I attend the session in two weeks time…
One thing I have been developing is my character, and here are a selection of sketches of him:
Then we had homework of drawing locations for our character. This I mainly did on my lunch time at Tidbinbilla, focusing on both scenic landscapes and individual trees/bushes:
Then the next stage is to place our characters within these locations:
And here is my favourite completed piece of art for this week:
Missing my pet fish back at home inspired me to sketch this chap, my favourite kind of fish, angelfish!
Happy New Year everybody!
Here are a few sketches to kick off my blog for 2010.
Between Christmas and New Year we stayed in a little place called Kangaroo Valley, and I was inspired to sketch the view from our veranda:
In Sydney we went to see the amazing fireworks for New Year – and they were amazing!! We settled in at our viewpoint at 3pm and then waited eagerly….
So this gave me a chance to sketch the view that we had of the Harbour Bridge:
And finally, on a beach – the exact view I had of my leg (and you can see the shadow that my sketchbook created!):
