Ace Comics June Meetup
On Saturday I joined the Ace Comics drawing group in Annerley. This was the first time I went to this and was great to meet other illustrators, including people I’d met before at expos.
I drew two pages. One included Ringo the Ringtail Possum and other characters of mine, but after we ordered pizza for lunch, I soon got in to a turtles mode and created the Australian version – Teenage Mutant Ninja Long Necked Turtles!!
Drawing this weekend? You bet!
Here’s where it is all happening:
Saturday – Drawing group at Ace Comics in Annerley (Click here for Facebook event page)
Sunday – Painting and Drawing Meetup at GOMA (Click here for Meetup Page)
See you there!!
Brisbane Painting & Drawing Meetup – May @ Northshore Harbour
In May, the Brisbane Painting and Drawing Meetup group met at Northshore Harbour – it was a lovely day with lovely views across the Brisbane River. We all stayed in the same spot so was great to view everyone’s art as they progressed through the morning. It is so inspirational seeing the variety and quality of what others were creating. It took me a little while to get going but I then opted for a comic style approach documenting things as they happened, from me arriving by City Cat, having our coffees and seeing dogs walking by.
The next meetup is on Sunday at GOMA – for more information please see the meetup group page: https://www.meetup.com/Brisbane-Painting-Drawing-Meetup/
Brisbane Painting & Drawing Meetup Group
In April, I organised the Brisbane Painting and Drawing Meetup Group and chose to hold it at Southbank. There’s such great views of the city from Southbank and so can really get stuck into drawing a landscape full of skyscrapers or people meandering by.
Afterwards we all had lunch together and is greatly inspiring learning about other peoples techniques and to see their artworks from the day. As my sketchbooks are normally full of animal sketches it was quite nice to get stuck into the Brisbane skyline.
The next meetup is on Sunday at Goma and to sign up or for more information please visit the Meetup page: https://www.meetup.com/Brisbane-Painting-Drawing-Meetup/
Brisbane Painting & Drawing Meetup Group – March Meet Up at Moora Park
It’s that awesome time of the month again when I join the Brisbane Painting and Drawing Meetup Group for a social and fun arty get together. Last weekend on Sunday we were at Moora Park in Shorncliffe enjoying the fresh air, sounds of the waves hitting the shore, and in some great company.
In the morning I sketched a couple of palm trees, some people, an ibis and a few characters that are rummaging around in the back of my mind.
It’s always greatly inspiring to see the diverse range of creativity amongst everyone else who goes and also to see other parts of Brisbane I have yet been to.
In April, I will be arranging the meetup and it will be meeting at the Maritime Museum on Southbank.

Brisbane Painting and Drawing Meetup February 2017
Sun shining… sea view… sketchbook out… socialising with friends… it’s the Brisbane Painting and Drawing Meetup Group!
This months meetup was at the GJ Walter Park in Cleveland where we all sat under a nice rotunda and enjoyed company, weather and being arty together! Afterwards we all had a refreshing drink and a bite to eat! It’s such a great way to see and sketch different parts of Brisbane, and of course meet other creatives.
Brisbane Painting & Drawing Meetup Group, October, Sherwood Arboretum – post 1 of 2
Last weekend I attended Octobers Brisbane Painting and Drawing Meetup Group for some sketching at Sherwood Arboretum.
It was such a beautiful day. It took me about an hour just enjoying the moment without even touching pen to paper!
So I thought I would start with drawing the very cute Ringo the Ringtail Possum ready for his day of sketching, and then a magpie showed up so I drew them too!
I’ve got two more sketches and will post them tomorrow…

Barbecuing Man Sketch
This is the final sketch from Saturday. I was introduced to sumi ink and using wooden kebab sticks to apply it. I looked around and saw a guy barbecuing and causing a lot of smoke. I though this would present a great way to test the different ends of the sticks from pointed, broken and blunt/flat. This proved a lot of fun, especially making the smoke effect with the broken flared end.
Have you tried sumi ink?
